20 years since Middleton / INQUEST Northern quiz

20 years since Middleton

This event, on Thursday 21 March, will look at the progress and impact of Article 2 inquests since the Middleton judgement in March 2004.

There will be several speakers including an introduction from GCN’s Pete Weatherby KC, who took part in the original inquest – Regina (Middleton) v West Somerset Coroner and another [2004] UKHL 10.

We will hear from INQUEST about their work and the impact of the inquest process on bereaved families.

Members of our inquests and inquiries team will provide a case review and look at the legal developments in Article 2 since Middleton, and there will be panel discussions about:

  • availability and eligibility criteria of legal aid for bereaved Interested Persons at inquests, and
  • the impact of Middleton and Article 2 in different contexts.

The event will run from 11:00am until 4:30pm, with arrivals from 10:30am. Lunch will be provided, and refreshments will be available during the breaks throughout the event. There will be an opportunity to socialise, with some drinks, after the event.

There will be 5 CPD points available for this event.

Please use the booking form below to reserve your place.

There will be all the usual quiz favourites including a music round and a picture round, as well as prizes for the winners and the best team name!
