The Public Office (Accountability) Bill – The Hillsborough Law in Operation
Garden Court North’s Pete Weatherby KC will be speaking at ‘The Public Office (Accountability) Bill – The Hillsborough Law in Operation’ seminar next Thursday (15 October 2026).
The hybrid seminar, hosted by Garden Court Chambers, will bring together six experts to discuss why the Hillsborough Law is so important, its key features and how to rely on these in practice, as the Bill is prepared for debate in the Committee Stage of the House of Lords next Monday (12 October).
Tickets are free, available here. There is limited capacity to attend in-person at Garden Court Chambers, London, or online.
Pete, who co-wrote Hillsborough Law and is a Director of Hillsborough Law Now, has led meetings with multiple ministers and the Government’s team over the course of the last 18 months. Throughout this process, Pete and the campaigning families from Hillsborough, the Manchester Arena, Grenfell, Covid Bereaved, Post Office, Contaminated Blood, Truth About Zane, Nuclear test Veterans, Chinook, Primados, Orgreave, and other state-related disasters and scandals insisted on no exemptions for any state bodies including the security services.
Alongside Pete, the following speakers will appear at the seminar:
- Jodie Blackstock, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers (Chair)
- Thalia Maragh, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
