Free Movement: Gaza applications and appeals
Garden Court North’s Lucy Mair will be speaking at Free Movement’s webinar, ‘Gaza cases: legal and practical considerations in entry clearance applications and appeals’, on 29 October 2025.
The webinar, conducted virtually, will explore the legal and practical considerations involved in submitting entry clearance applications for individuals from Gaza seeking to join relatives in the UK and appeals against refusals. This session is aimed at immigration lawyers and caseworkers advising clients from Gaza on family reunion cases.
As part of Garden Court North’s immigration team, Lucy’s practice focuses on asylum, trafficking, migrant domestic violence and public law challenges arising from these areas. She has a particular specialism in cases involving gender-based violence – and has previously carried out international human rights work in Gaza.
She will appear alongside Decla Palmer, a solicitor from Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit (GMIAU) who recently spoke on the ‘Looking Ahead’ panel during the North-West Migrants’ Rights Conference, co-hosted by Garden Court North and GMIAU in Manchester.
Lucy and Decla will discuss:
- what the most appropriate application is (particularly in light of the media controversy surrounding one Gazan family’s use of the Ukraine Family Scheme form and the closure of the family reunion route);
- the requirements that applicants should be seeking to meet;
- what evidence is needed to support an application;
- fee waivers;
- what the most common reasons for refusal are; and
- how to seek expedition.
The cost is £55 + VAT for Free Movement members, or £65 + VAT for non-members. Tickets are available here.
