Public inquiries and inquests: is this justice?
Public inquiries and inquests: is this justice? will see speakers discuss the need for a ‘Hillsborough Law’, which would ensure a statutory duty of candor for public authorities. The event, hosted by Greater Manchester Law Centre (GMLC) and Greater Manchester Association of Trade Union Councils (GMATUC) will also look at how and whether public inquiries and inquests can be used to deliver justice.
Garden Court North will be represented by three members of our inquests and public inquiries team:
- Christian Weaver who represented Awaab Ishak’s family in the inquest that revealed their landlord’s wrongdoing in social housing;
- Mira Hammad, who worked on the Grenfell Inquiry;
- Pete Weatherby KC, who represented families in the Hillsborough Inquiry and is currently involved in the COVID-19 inquiry.
Other speakers include:
- Andy Burnham, Greater Manchester Mayor;
- Paul Heron, Public Interest Law Centre.
The event will take place on 19 January, 6pm at UNISON North West, 1 Hunts Bank, Manchester, M3 1UN.
