University of Liverpool – Rethinking Death Oversight: Emotion, Experience and Process
Garden Court North’s Ciara Bartlam will be speaking at the School of Law and Social Justice’s ‘Rethinking Death Oversight: Emotion, Experience and Process’ workshop at the University of Liverpool on 11 June, 2026, from 10am to 4:30pm.
The workshop will examine processes of death oversight, including the role of the coroner in a range of contested deaths. These include deaths resulting from medical error and reproductive loss, deaths in state custody, deaths resulting from major incidents, deaths in mental health settings, and deaths of people from vulnerable populations, including those seeking asylum and people with learning disabilities.
Ciara, who is part of Garden Court North’s inquests and public inquiries team, will be chairing a panel on the limits of the coronial system, from 11am-12:30pm. She will appear alongside various leading academics, campaigners from INQUEST, solicitors from Leigh Day, and others.
