YLAL North meetings: Manchester meeting On the Public Order Bill

Mira Hammad and Ciara Bartlam of our inquests and public inquiries team will be taking part in this Young Legal Aid Lawyers interactive session at which community activists and lawyers will discuss the Public Order Bill is and how it impacts the right to protest.

As described by Liberty, ‘The Public Order Bill is a staggering attack on our right to protest. By introducing protest banning orders, protest-specific stop and search, and a wide range of new offences, the Bill risks creating what the Joint Committee on Human Rights has called a “hostile environment” for people exercising their fundamental rights.’

Speakers include:

  • Mira Hammad: barrister at Garden Court North specialising in inquests, inquiries and protest defence.
  • Zara Manoehoetoe: community organiser and public speaker.
  • Simon Pook: solicitor at Robert Lizars and legal observer with Green & Black Cross.

The meeting will be chaired by YLAL Committee Members Tofunmi Odugbemi and Ciara Bartlam.
