Garden Court North’s James Stark and Misha Nayak-Oliver will deliver a breakout session on homelessness at Legal Action Group’s (LAG) Housing Law Conference on Friday 13 June 2025.

The session, which will take place from 14:00-15:00pm at BPP University, London, will explain the particulars of bringing a homelessness appeal and a discrimination claim, as well as unpicking suitability challenges after Imam.

James Stark, winner of Legal Aid Barrister of the Year 2020 at the Legal Aid Lawyers Awards, will be looking at the question of affordability and the overlap and differences in considering “suitability” and “reasonableness to continue to occupy” under the Housing Act 1996.

Misha Nayak-Oliver, who is currently in the second six of her pupillage at Garden Court North, will be chairing the session in which James will speak alongside Diane Astin, Lecturer in Legal Practice at Brunel University, and Nick Bano from Garden Court Chambers.

Also under discussion at LAG’s Housing Law Conference will be the Renters’ Reform Bill, how to prepare and plead effective Equality Act cases, and the use of Domestic Abuse Protection Orders (DAPOs) in possession proceedings.

LAG is a widely renowned national charity which aims to improve access to justice for disadvantaged members of society.

The full conference will last from 9:30am until approximately 17:30pm, finishing with closing remarks from Sue James, CEO of LAG.
