Brenda Campbell and Tom Royston shortlisted for the 2017 Legal Aid Practitioners Group Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards

Garden Court North Chambers’ Tom Royston, who has extensive experience in cases which have established changes in law (such as exemption from the ‘bedroom tax’ for disabled children) has been shortlisted for Legal Aid Newcomer.  He said:  “It’s such an honour to have been nominated and whatever the outcome I’m just really pleased that the work we do to protect those most vulnerable is recognised.”

  • Ravi Naik, Irvine Thanvi Natas Solicitors; and
  • Tom Royston, Garden Court North Chambers.

Brenda Campbell (one of Chambers’ door tenants), who was part of a team of counsel who represented the families of 77 of those who died in the Hillsborough Stadium Disaster and who directly represented the families of 14 of those who were unlawfully killed, has been shortlisted for Legal Aid Barrister. Upon hearing about the short listing she said: “It’s a real surprise and complete privilege to have been shortlisted amongst such a high calibre of practitioners committed to representing those most disadvantaged.”

The winners will be announced by Baroness Doreen Lawrence at a ceremony in central London on 5 July 2017.
