Bryan McGuire QC 1958-2016

26 July 2016

Members of Garden Court North Chambers were saddened to hear of the death of Bryan McGuire QC on 17 July 2016.

Bryan, of Cornerstone Barristers Chambers, was one of the leading housing, community care and public lawyers of his generation who over his 33 year career appeared in numerous leading cases in the Supreme Court, House of Lords, Court of Appeal and High Court.

Bryan also made a very informative and highly entertaining contribution to one of the PLP’s Public Law courses he co-presented with Chambers a few years ago.

Chambers’ James Stark, who was led by Bryan in Scott v Southern Pacific Mortgage Limited [2015] AC 385 said:

“Bryan McGuire QC exemplified all that was best in our profession. He was a terrific lawyer and a wonderfully erudite and attractive advocate. He was also a very kind and compassionate man who always gave full credit to all those who worked with him. I was fortunate enough to have had him as a good friend and inspiration for over 20 years and I will miss him greatly. Our sincerest condolences go to his family and friends”.
