Christian Weaver Legal Aid Newcomer of the Year 2023

Christian Weaver has published his second book, which aims to explain the rights of the individual to protest in a climate where those rights have never been so important.

Following the publication of his debut book, The Law in 60 Seconds: A pocket guide to your rights, Your Right to Protest: Understand it, Use it, continues to educate people on their basic legal rights as Christian explains:

“I wanted to empower people. Through cases I’ve undertaken I’ve seen what true powerlessness looked like. It made me think about how I could maximise my book’s influence and the empowerment it could provide.

 

I am fortunate that, by virtue of being a barrister, I feel like I have some power within society, but I have seen and worked with people who don’t. The book isn’t just about your right to protest but about trying to ensure that when people use their voice, there is some power behind it.”

The importance of protest and supporting those exercising their freedom of expression is rooted in Garden Court North’s core principles and values and this work remains a central focus.

Christian continues:

“This book feels even more relevant in our current social climate. In an ideal world, everyone who attends a protest will have this in their back pocket. Having a resource book that explains your fundamental legal rights in understandable language is essential.”
