Houses of Parliament: Global incidence and evidence in grooming, coerced marriage and conversion of minority women
Garden Court North’s Professor Javaid Rehman will be speaking at the parliamentary event ‘Grooming, coerced marriage and conversion of minority women: Global incidence and evidence’ on 16 June, 2026, in Committee Room 16 of the Houses of Parliament, London.
This discussion accompanies the ongoing targeting of minority women through unrecognised forms of predation and the publication of new research onĀ Ideologically Motivated Sexual Grooming by the Institute of Development Studies.

Panellists will draw on testimonies from countries including Pakistan, India, Egypt and Nigeria, where research has identified a consistent pattern of victimisation and targeting of vulnerable women and girls from minority backgrounds.
Javaid is a Professor of Islamic Law and Muslim Constitutionalism at Brunel University.
Previously an Academic Associate Member of Garden Court North, he is currently undertaking a mini-pupillage.
Javaid will be speaking alongside:
