GCN welcomes Dr Joe Purshouse as Associate Member

Dr Joe Purshouse

We are delighted to welcome Dr Joe Purshouse as an associate member of Chambers.

Joe has spent more than a decade in academia, his PhD thesis is titled Safeguarding Privacy from Criminal Process and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Criminal Law and Justice at the University of Sheffield.

Joe’s research focuses on the disruptive impact of innovations in technology on society and on the law. His work has been published in leading journals such as Legal Studies, the Journal of Law and Society, the Modern Law Review, Public Law, and Criminal Law Review. His research has contributed to policy debates on the application of law to new technologies in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Joe is also an editor of Privacy, Technology, and the Criminal Process, has written extensively for legal publications and has been quoted widely in the media on issues of privacy and technology.

Joe says: ‘I am extremely pleased to join Garden Court North Chambers as an associate member and look forward to supporting the work of a set with an enduring commitment to widening access to legal representation and protecting rights through justice. In joining such a prestigious Chambers, I hope to foster closer ties between legal academia and the Bar, to create collaborative links between human rights and civil liberties practitioners and academics in the North of England, and to contribute my own research expertise in human rights and state surveillance in appropriate cases. I also hope this partnership can facilitate widening participation initiatives between Garden Court North Chambers and the University of Sheffield, by creating opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to gain insights into the important work of Garden Court North barristers.’
