Helen Peden

Garden Court North pupil barrister Helen Peden has won the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales (ICLR) Pupillage Award 2023.

The award was founded to mark ICLR’s  150th anniversary in 2015 and is an annual bursary for pupils to provide direct financial assistance for the duration of their pupillage.

As part of her application Helen had to submit two short essays, followed by a headnote drafting exercise for an unreported case in the final round.

The applications were judged by Margaret Bowron KC, Mr Justice Roth and Brendan Wright (ICLR Editor).

On winning the award Helen said: ‘I am so grateful to the ICLR for choosing me as this year’s winner. Their financial support will help to reduce the pressures of pupillage, allowing me to focus on my work. Winning the award has also been a boost to my confidence, reminding me that I am up to the challenge ahead!’

Helen will attend a winner’s reception in January.
