Garden Court North’s Alexa Thompson has been appointed to the editorial board of Nearly Legal, the highly respected housing law blog run by solicitors and barristers practising in the field.
Nearly Legal provides practice-led information, legal updates and wider discussion on housing and landlord and tenant law, with its issues covering homelessness, possession and forfeiture, unlawful eviction, regulation and licensing, disrepair, and more.
Nearly Legal was founded in 2006 by Giles Peaker, a well-regarded and influential housing solicitor and partner at Anthony Gold Solicitors. Garden Court North’s James Stark published a personal tribute to Giles after he passed away in April 2026.
Alexa’s first article for Nearly Legal, published yesterday (4 October 2026), evaluates the recent case of ‘R (Griffiths-Fowell) v Birmingham City Council [2026] EWCA Civ 920’.
It analyses a Court of Appeal decision dealing with the circumstances in which the main housing duty can be ended, and whether accommodation offered must be suitable for the main housing duty to be discharged.
Mrs Griffiths-Fowell, a disabled person who sought homeless assistance from Birmingham City Council, was represented by Garden Court North’s Joseph Markus, instructed by the Community Law Partnership.
Alexa, James and Joseph are part of Garden Court North’s housing and homelessness team.
