Garden Court North is pleased to announce that Iqra Shahid and Pragnya Iovine have today (1 April 2026) begun the second-six of their pupillages.

Both pupils have successfully completed their first-six, which began on 1 October 2025, and are now welcoming instructions in their core areas of practice.

Iqra remains under the supervision of Lucy Mair, while Prag is under the supervision of Ciara Bartlam and Elizabeth Mottershaw.

Iqra Shahid

During her first-six, Iqra gained a broad range of experience shadowing members from Garden Court North’s immigration, social housing, protest rights, inquest, and Court of Protection teams.

She has observed experienced members of the immigration team including Lucy Mair, Vijay Jagadesham, Jonathan Holt and Mikhil Karnik in asylum and protection, deportation and refugee family reunion appeals in the First-Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal. Many of her supervisor Lucy’s cases involved vulnerable clients with elements of trafficking and gender-based violence. Iqra has drafted appeal skeleton arguments, including for vulnerable clients and she has also shadowed members of chambers in the Upper Tribunal (IAC) in appeals from the First-Tier Tribunal in establishing errors of law in the lower tribunal and preparing for the re-hearings.

From Garden Court North’s housing and homelessness team, Iqra shadowed Rosalind Burgin, Alexander McColl, Joseph Markus, Jonathan Holt, Anna Watterson, and Sonia Birdee in cases involving possession and disrepair claims. She has gained experience in providing written advice and drafting pleadings on a variety of cases.

Iqra observed Rosalind Burgin and Mira Hammad during protest trials in the Magistrates and Crown Court, including the first trial of the Filton protesters from Palestine Action, during which she was appointed as a noting brief for a week. She also shadowed Christian Weaver, Ciara Bartlam and Anna Morris KC during inquests, and has observed Ben McCormack during a Court of Protection case involving forced marriage.

Iqra welcomes instructions across all of Chambers’ core practice areas, particularly asylum and immigration, protest rights, and housing matters.

Pragnya Iovine

During her first-six, Prag has observed several members of Garden Court North’s inquest and public inquiries team, including Pete Weatherby KC on the Southport Inquiry, Ciara Bartlam at the inquest into the death of Alex Davies and Camille Warren at the inquest into the death of James Stow.

Following an inquest, a solicitor commented: “I also want to praise Prag, she was fantastic. I understand that she has only just started her pupillage, but she threw herself in completely, and was a massive help”. Prag has gained experience in drafting submissions for pre-inquest review hearings including on Article 2 and on conclusions to be left to the jury.

Prag has worked with the protest rights team on cases in both the Magistrates and Crown Court. She was appointed as a noting brief for the first week of the Filton trial, during which she shadowed Mira Hammad.

She has also worked with the housing and homelessness team on cases including possession, disrepair, committal applications, unlawful eviction, and homelessness appeals. She has observed a broad range of hearings, settlement negotiations, and gained experience in drafting pleadings.

Prag has also gained exposure to practice areas including Actions Against Public Authorities (AAP), prison law, Court of Protection, and immigration. She is particularly interested in building on her previous experience as an AAP paralegal, and during her first six she had the opportunity to draft pleadings and conduct research in this area.

Prag welcomes instructions across all of Chambers’ core practice areas, particularly inquests and public inquiries, crime, AAP, housing, and public law.
