Garden Court North Professor Javaid Rehman has co-authored a landmark report into the inextricable link between labour rights and human rights, launched in a seminar event in the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday (20 October 2026).

The report, titled ‘International Labour Law & International Human Rights Law: Analysing the Convergence and Divergence’, examines the increasingly relevant synergies between labour rights and human rights amid the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. At the launch event, the authors discussed three primary case studies: the disturbing situations prevalent in the State of Qatar, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Pakistan.

Alongside Javaid, the other co-authors of the report are:

  • Lord David Alton of Liverpool
  • Mr Jim Shannon MP
  • Ms Sulema Jahangir
  • Mr Leif Isaksson
  • Mr Saied Tagavi

Javaid is a Professor of Islamic Law and Muslim Constitutionalism at Brunel University, and the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran (2018-2024). Previously an Academic Associate Member of Garden Court North, he is currently undertaking a mini-pupillage.
